Generational trauma colors the perspective of both its victims and perpetrators; there is often little difference if any between these two extremes. We either blame ourselves or we blame others, but either way, there exists the tendency and capacity for evil within all of us. We are not black and white; reality does not exist within these extreme polarities and yet victims so often live within these parameters, both in mood and posture. The filter erected to protect becomes the very source of further isolation, abuse and pain; a cycle which will not stop until there evolves a capacity to see others and the world as it is, not as we would have it be.

“We are not black and white; reality does not exist within these extreme polarities and yet victims so often live within these parameters, both in mood and posture.”

Jennifer Peters

This piece is the first of many to inhabit not only a softer touch, but the stunning impact of gray and a hint of green. The figure is beautifully imperfect and the scales of an obsessive need to express through dismantling the body are peeling away. The need to punish the body for its betrayal as a child fades and the capacity to nurture and love what became a source of utter disgust emerges.

An Excerpt:

‘La Vert Cendre’ was one of the feature pieces at the artist’s solo exhibition, Foothills County: Un Sonnet En Trois, in December of 2025. The show took place at the privately run In The Meadow Gallery within the heart of Foothills County. The artist completed an off-site residency within the landscape for the exhibition, commuting up to four times per week from Calgary to the ranch in order to amass this stunning collection. The opening reception was so well-received that the show was extended by an additional three months to accommodate further bookings. ‘La Vert Cendre” is available for purchase via the artist’s virtual gallery; any and all purchases can be delivered in-person by the artist locally or shipped abroad. Stay tuned for upcoming information about this prolific artist’s next event come July!
